Diversity in Decision Making
The goal of the Media Diversity Initiative (MDI)
is twofold: to increase the numbers of racially and
ethnically diverse managers and supervisors in the
nation's broadcast newsrooms and to help news
organizations do a better job in covering the diverse
communities they are committed to serve. The MDI is a service of
Chriesman & Associates that
seeks to address this issue in the following ways. Listing Service
The MDI Listing Service
is a database where interested broadcast journalists can submit their names free of charge to a website. Stations and companies which are clients may then
have access to those candidates to consider for open positions in their newsrooms. This service is available to anyone who wishes to post a listing but it is aimed primarily at management and
supervisory employees (for example: producers, assignment editors, executive producers, managing editors) or those seeking to become a manager.
Industry leaders such as Hearst-Argyle Television are
among our clients. If you are interested in listing yourself on the service,

Diversity is not only about who works on staff, but what
viewers see on your newscast. That’s why, in addition
to our Listing Service, we offer a wide range of
newsroom diversity consulting services. They include
newscast content analysis and workshops for your staff.
